Students and faculty from the Department of Southeast Asian Studies(DSEAS) of Wenzao Ursuline University, visited a Thai temple in Yongkang, Tainan, on November 14 to experience Thai Buddhist pujas for the first ti

These pujas attracted Thai nationality who stayed in Taiwan to participate. Students in the Thai group assisted Thai nationality to arrive at the temple. DSEAS Assistant Professor Dr. Anthika Manowong said that this type of puja usually held in early November every year as Thailand enters the rainy season after the April Water Splash Festival. As a resul, Thai monks do not go out every day to collect the pious during this times, as many living creatures crawling around to escape the floods. To avoid accidentally stepping on these creatures, monks neither collect devout alms nor the devotee gather to offer them food, thus leaving the tradition of not going out of the temple during the rainy season. After rainy season, the monks come out, and devotees from all over the country will come to pray for blessings.
